Devils Garden Trail, Arches National Park

Arches National Park has many short hiking trails, each visiting a wonderland of red rock fins. One of the long-ish trails is the Devils Garden Loop.

The loop is 7 miles fantastic long, taking you through arches, up slick rock walls, along the tops of rock fins and through a labyrinth of magic.

With out a doubt one of the most fun and interesting hikes ever.

One of my favorite places in the world and one of my favorite – most challenging – hikes is that primitive trail. I follow your blog and really enjoy the shots you take and post. You have quite an eye and the love you have for the places you explore is reflected in your photos.

Yes, what an awesome trail! I have hiked the first half of it several times, in other visits, but never did the entire loop until the last visit…I may have liked the back half (from Double-O Arch to the end) more than the front end. There are certainly less people that’s for sure… The serenity, the majesty of it all is really unbelievable. I need to get back there alone and have time to go camp out there. When was your last visit to Arches?

  I hiked there early June 2012. We were headed to the Grand Canyon to hike the rim-to-rim, and we thought hiking the primitive trail there would be good training (I live in Iowa and not much opportunity for desert hiking here) 🙂 It most certainly was! I hike in Canyonlands and Capitol Reef last year, and although I loved that, the Arches hike is still the best I’ve done in the Utah’s canyon area. (That trip was amazing though – following Arches with the R2R was quite an experience!)

Astonishing photographs. Not sure how you processed these images but I really love them. Nice. Beautiful area, too. I’ve not been there but it is also on my List.

I process the images as RAW, using shadows and highlights, lens correction and then brushes to handle more of the shadows and highlights, always trying to make it as real as i can.
The SW is such a wonderful place to roam…

  Interesting. The results are amazing, Andy. I also shoot RAW and use shadows and highlights and some other adjustments, but haven’t tried lens corrections. Time to experiment…again. The southwest charmed me long ago – I could easily live in the desert. Thanks for sharing your work!

  I don’t know about living there year round, but I could definitely stay down there for a LONG time just visiting all the state and national parks, there is SO much to do!
