Skagit Valley Tulips 2017

These are from Thursday, April 13th. I took a group of students to RoozenGaarde for Photo Class.

Way in the back across several very muddy fields, there were several lovely fields, actually bordering McClean Road.

I expected rain, and we were blessed with wonderful clouds and a near perfect sky. Anyway, here are a few images.

Next week, April 17 to 23 should see most of the fields go into bloom, but who knows what Mother Nature has in mind…

Tulip Festival 2017 – Day 1

For me Day 1 means my first tulip festival photo shoot of the year.

And no, there are no tulips quite yet. But the daffodils have started to bloom! Here is the Bloom Map to see where they are.

Last two years, the daffodils were almost done by now. But this has been an unusually wet, cold and dreary winter.

Here are two daffodil images from this morning.

We did espy one lone tulip…

And a few snow geese.

Picture takin’ in Skagit Valley is way beyond cool!

I offer guided Photo Tours of Tulip Festival, here is the link with more info

For anyone interested in more of a wilderness experience, we also do North Cascades Hiking and Photo Tours and for anyone interested in photographing the Milky Way, Night Sky Photo Tours.

Samish River Boat

Along the Bayview Edison Road there is a small bridge over the Samish River. The end of the river curves west as it opens into the sound.
The sweeping are is filled with grass and an old, abandoned boat.

This next image is more recent, yesterday in fact and you can see the top of the boat has gotten smashed. The green is starting to arrive, and that wonderful grass will be back soon.

July 4th Carnival

The 4th of July brings the carnival to town.

The bright colors pull me in!

I shot these images with a Canon 6D and a 14mm lens.

Samish Overlook Para Gliders

Samish Overlook is a wonderful place for views.

I visited this morning, hoping to get a few shots of the view with some flowers.

I did!

And I got an extra bonus of two people paragliding off!

Flickr Explore

If you’ve taken a photograph at any point since 2004, chances are you have heard of Flickr. Whether shot by professional or amateur, advanced or novice, more than 6 billion photos have taken up residence on Flickr, the Web’s most popular image hosting community. Each day the best images are selected for Flickr Explore.

Explore is Flickr’s way of showcasing the most interesting photos within a given point in time — usually over a 24 hour period.

Flickr receives about 6,000 uploads every minute — That’s about 8.6 million photos a day! From this huge group of images, the Flickr Interestingness algorithm chooses only 500 images to showcase for each 24-hour period. That’s only one image in every 17,000!

My Flickr name is i8Seattle. Here is a link to my Flickr page!

So far I’ve had 34 of my images showcased on Flickr Explore.I must admit that its a pretty big win for me when one of my images is chosen for Explore!

Cascade Loop Magazine 2016

The Cascade Loop Magazine is a tourist guide that comes out every spring. It covers all the cool things to do, places to see, great spots to eat and nice hotels to stay in along the Loop.

The 400 mile route crosses the North Cascades twice, along Highway 2 (between Everett and Wenatchee) and again along Highway 20 between Burlington and Winthrop.  Cover_Page_2016-page-001

Here is the cover of this years publication, an image I captured last year along the Maple Pass Loop Trail.

The magazine is filled with stunning images of places along the way. Here are a few of my images that made it into this years issue.

If you are planning a trip along the Loop and would like to go on a North Cascades Photo Tour, here is the link with details.

And if you would like to own a beautiful, high quality Canvas Wrapped Print of the scenery along the way, here is a gallery where you can purchase them for yourself.

Samish River Sunset

Here are a few images from the Samish River from last week. The sky was abound with color. I love the green grass and the reflection of colors in the river.

This is from the little bridge that spans the Samish along the Bayview – Edison Road.
